Zai Circle chamber groups Notes From The Field: China

"Notes From The Field" is a improvised collaboration from my Chinese travels, blending the Chinese traditional instruments of GuZheng (Chinese Zither), Pipa (Chinese Lute), Morin Khuur (Mongolian Horse Head Fiddle), Violin, and Electric Basses, and a traditional Chinese drum, for a unique, eclectic and energizing sound. Come travel to the East with me in this sound scape of intertwined dialogue!

"The CD was beautiful, especially the 3rd one - the traditional Asian melody played certainly brought tears to my eyes. Wow, all of the pieces in the CD were SO FASCINATING!"

Welcome the Year of the Dragon!

2012 is here! Best wishes to all for a productive and inspiring year ahead!
Just a few Zai Circle Updates to bring in the New Year:

We have done some major updating and revamping of the Zai Circle Website over the past few months. Lots of new features including: interviews, sound clips, links to the new CD "Notes From The Field" and other goodies-(new contact page and tighter security to keep spam away).

We are completely revamping the photo gallery with a whole new format that should be up and running in the next few weeks, but the biggest "new" feature is the Zai Circle Dialogue Space. This is a blog post of sorts and I am hoping you will all join in the discussion with your thoughts and insights to help make the Dialogue Space reflect and integrate the directions Zai Circle is going musically. The Dialogue Space is also a way that I can bounce ideas off off all of you and post different types of content from poetry, to dreams, to conversations, and musings.
I hope you stop by for a visit and engage in the Dialogue with me!

Right now I am planning the next trip to China-this time I will spend a few weeks in Taiwan and will hopefully do some sort of concert there with the Zai Circle Trio-ill keep you posted on the my progress!

As always-thank you for visiting

Zai Circle Live Radio Show at KYRS

I did a live radio show on KYRS "Crossroads" in Spokane WA this past Sunday, September 11, 2011. Abel Rocha joined me on Harp and Guitar. Our theme was "Distance" We explored this idea musically and responded with improvised musical conversations to callers email stories and insights on "Distance".

Distance can be many things-What does "Distance" mean to you? How does it come into play in your life and affect those around around you?

I apologize in advance for the sound quality on these clips. We had some undetected (during interview), and unresolvable technical issues at the studio that day. However if you try to just put the clipped signal out of your mind there is some real beauty in the music and discussions here-sorry for any inconvenience. Kelan
